Piracy (specifically internet piracy) is frowned upon by society for obvious reasons. It is stealing. You technically are stealing someones else's hard work. HOWEVER, while it is easy for us computer nerds, most normal people (target market) are incapable of getting past searching for a torrent.

This does soften the blow somewhat, despite what the media says. Not that many people pirate music compared to the number of people who buy music off iTunes (as far as I know, too lazy to research). Steam pull in its profits, any game with online capability can only be bought, indie music groups have their CDs distributed at concerts and not pirated, since they are so indie, people still go to movie houses.
So what's the problem? Let us download out shit, you still get tons of cash from everyone else.
Technically, you're getting free advertising. Us pirates might listen to some new band that we wouldn't normally be exposed to in a store, like them and then go to their concert. Despite downloading every movie ever, you will still always go see the latest James Bond or Mission Impossible in cinemas. Plus 3D is too expensive to have at home bro. As I mentioned, Call of Duty sucks without the screaming 12 year olds online, and some games, like Diablo 3, only work with internet access. I even still sometimes rent movies just for the experience.
So, you may think, we can avoid piracy then? Publishers and producers realise what is happening as worked around it? It's easy to avoid it?
WRONG
I wouldn't pirate all my PC games if they weren't so damn expensive. I would see more movies and not download, if it wasn't R60 (about $7) a ticket. I would buy music and support the artists if CDs were actually available of other artits besides Justin Beiber and Gospel/they were so damn expensive to foreigners You know, sometimes we try and avoid stealing your crap, but you just make it so hard not to.
A perfect example:
When I upgraded my computer last months, I opened my graphics card box to find nestled away a free voucher for Assassin's Creed 3. "Oh boy!" I though, "Free stuff that is ok to download!". So I visit the special website. After 3 redirects, I arrive at uPlay's website (uPlay is a shittier Ubisoft version of Steam). I had uPlay when it first came out and it annoyed the crap out of me. But I really wanted some more of that AC goodness that I first fell in love with at AC 1. Reluctantly, I downloaded and installed uPlay. After pestering me for all my details (remember this is for ONE game, I mainly use Steam for buying games) it began downloading. Then it crashed. uPlay proceeded to fuck with my PC and my patience for the rest of the day. After a while I got fed up, uninstalled everything and pirated AC3 off PirateBay in a few hours.
You see how hard it is to be nice sometimes? I remember also trying to buy an old Linkin Park albumn, wanting to support my favourite band. After months of searching (this was before online shopping was broad enough) I couldn't find it and just copied it from a friend. On that note, think how sociable piracy has become. Never before could you invite your friends over and have a movie marathon, or host a LAN and try out new and old games with eachother. Your vast music collection allows you to act like a connoisseur and lets you share your music with your friends easily. I've discovered many good bands while at friends house going through his iTunes library and copying random crap off. Piracy has also led to a HUGE increase in hard drive sales if your think about it...
So in conclusion, leave us alone. We're not destroying the industry, we're advertising your products and allowing other things to grow. Listen to Barney.

I feel I ranted a lot, but that's good. I'm still getting a feel to this whole blog business and hopefully I'll get better. Expect more.
